Appearance:

Golden eyes, with long blond hair usually tied in a braid. Also normally seen with a white shirt under a black coat, black pants, boots, State Alchemist pocket watch, and white gloves. And, of course, he's short.

Personality:

Cursed with diminuitive height, Ed has a matching temper, short. Wise beyond his years, and gifted when it comes to Alchemy, Ed learned to grow up quickly but still retains some immature qualities. Smart mouthed, quick witted, Ed is a match for any grown up, even if it be the devious Roy Mustang. Underneath it all Ed still has a soft spot and is very kind, especially when it comes to those he loves. He is also exceedingly protective, and hates to see any of his loved ones hurt. If they are, he will not rest until he's hurt the one responsible for it, hey, it's Equivalent Exchange.



Background:



At the age of 12, Ed became the youngest State Alchemist, earning the codename “Fullmetal." He started studying Alchemy at age six with his younger brother, Alphonse to impress their mother. Soon after, he was declared a genius, learning fast and eventually figuring out how to use Alchemy without using a transmutation circle.

When he was younger, he lived in his his hometown with his Mother and younger brother, he lost his mother to a mysterious illness. By chance they later moved with their new Sensei to Dublith and learned the arts of Alchemy more deeply as well as a rather extensive study in martial arts, but soon returned to their hometown. When studying Alchemy, the younger brothers learned of “Human Transmutation” and tried to bring their mother back to life. In Alchemy, the fundemental law is Equivalent Exchange, and in the attempted transmutation their Exchange was the basic ingredients of the human body, and drops of their blood as information for her soul. In the end, the transmutation failed, and Ed was brought to the gate where he learned the truth and lost his leg in exchange for such knowledge. When brought back, he discovered that Al was gone, and exchanged his arm for his younger brother’s soul which he bound to one of his father’s suits of amour.



Devastated, broken, and crippled, Ed and Al were orphans who had gone through the horrors of a Human Transmutation gone awry. Al seemed better, but Ed was confined to a wheel chair and severely depressed, pretty much dead to the world. But, out of the blue, Roy Mustang, a Lt. Colonel in the military and also a State Alchemist, came to the Rockbell home where Ed and Al were staying. He gave Ed an invitation to visit the Eastern District and become a State Alchemist.



In the end, Ed decided he’d do anything to get back his lost limbs and his brother’s body, even if that meant becoming a dog of the military, as Alchemists who work for the State were called. He went through the grueling surgery of attaching Automail to his body, recovering in only a year instead of the normal three. He traveled to meet Roy Mustang and became the youngest State Alchemist to ever pass the qualification exam. With his brother traveling by his side he now tries to learn the secrets of how to regain their lost bodies and searches for the Philosopher’s Stone.

On the pocket watch Ed is given to authenticate his State Alchemist position, he scratches “Don’t forget 3.Oct.11” the day they burned their childhood home down and left on their journey.

Ed's current adventures include being swallowed alive by Gluttony, captured by the Homonculi and their "father," and watching a friend become a Homonculus. He is currently under surveillance by agents of The Fuhrer, King Bradley, to prevent him taking any action against the Homonculi.
